I love being able to study his latest, perhaps last, project in view of what I already knew about him. All in all, this was an afternoon well spent. If you have the room, and the money, this book would make a great centerpiece to any photography print collection. The aim of the project was to raise public awareness of the origins of the popular drink. Well printed, good paper, great feel to the book.

Sebastião Salgado GENESIS

The photographer began his career as a professional photographer in Paris in 1973 and subsequently worked with the photo agencies Sygma, Gamma, and Magnum Photos. Over 30 trips travelled by foot, light aircraft, seagoing vessels, canoes, and even balloons, through extreme heat and cold and in sometimes dangerous conditions Salgado created a collection of images showing us nature, animals, and indigenous peoples in breathtaking beauty. Her interest in photography started in the early 1970s and she moved on to conceiving and designing photography books and organizing exhibitions, numerous of them on Sebastiao Salgado. It is also the kind of exhibit that I will want to return to more than once. He is particularly noted for his social documentary photography of workers in less developed nations. That's too much to expect of any book of photographs in this day and age of media saturation.

This book is also a great bargain. In fact that is an excellent way to describe this work, Photographic Sushi for the Soul. However, this book has one fatal flaw: Every single large image is presented as a 2 page spread, with a page division running right down the middle! The exotic locations are no substitute for photographic excellence. The latter three are mammoth collections with hundreds of images each from all around the world. This book does not reflect that. This book falls short on multiple levels foremost being the apparent lack of editing.

He has traveled in over 120 countries for his photographic projects. The perfect space perfectly lit with perfect photography by a world master. This is a large show, much larger than I had expected. A strange combination of beautiful vision and inspiration leads one to turn the pages. Attention: total weight is 59 kg 130 lb! I understand people's complaints about the full size landscape images being cut off by the double page layout, but for the price this is a literal steal. There isn't a weak image in the lot.

These are just a few of the hundreds of amazing images in this Genesis collection. In 1994 he and his wife Lélia Wanick Salgado created Amazonas Images, which exclusively handles his work. For some reason it doesn't bother me with this book, but I've heard from others that aren't so happy about that. Love Salgado's work and this is a fantastic collection of some of his powerful, dramatic photography. Salgado, who always preferred the chiaroscuro palette of black-and-white images, shot very little color in his early career before giving it up completely. I love Salgado--the photos in this book are gorgeous!!! The film won a special award at Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for the best Documentary Feature at the 2015 Academy Awards. The pictures of more familiar places and animals, such as Bryce Canyon and Monument Valley, and lions, penguins and apes, stand favorable comparison with the very best black and white photographs of the same subjects by other master photographers.

When he looked through the viewfinder, he experienced a revelation: suddenly life made sense. The Genesis book is a two volume tome of over seven hundred pages weighing in at a whopping sixty lbs. Especially considering the amount of work that went into creating this book. Plan to invest at least a couple of hours viewing this show. Mastering the monochrome with an extreme deftness to rival the virtuoso Ansel Adams, Salgado brings black-and-white photography to a new dimension; the tonal variations in his works, the contrasts of light and dark, recall the works of Old Masters such as Rembrandt and Georges de La Tour.

And it was my privilege to listen. And it was my privilege to listen. A strange combination of beautiful vision and inspiration leads one to turn the pages. When he looked through the viewfinder, he experienced a revelation: suddenly life made sense. Sumo size means this is the biggest, baddest, heaviest dang book you have ever seen.

Most of these have appeared in numerous press publications and books. Subjects from around the planet, rendered by the hand of a master without regard to cost — the only focus on quality. The Books Are Goliath Sized Tombs, Far Too Heavy To Sit In My Lap! We encounter the Stone Age Korowai people of West Papua, nomadic Dinka cattle farmers in Sudan, Nenets and their reindeer herds in the Arctic Circle, as well as the Mentawai jungle communities on islands west of Sumatra. I love the planet too. Touring exhibitions of this work have been presented throughout the world.
